We had a gorgeous double rainbow spilling into the valley. A picture, and a place, that is hard to resist
What a Christmas! Denise, Tonya and I just returned from eight great nights at the Point at Poipu on Kauai.
Kauai is a beautiful lush green island with everything from Hawaii’s best beaches to the Waimea Canyon which is often compared to the Grand Canyon. Kauai is also home to the remote, rugged Napali coast.

In November Denise and I spent 10 nights in Costa Rica. We split this time between San Jose where we were the day we arrived and th day we departed. San Jose is fairly high up and is a bit drier. It is a good sized city.
After staying over-night in San Jose, we drove to [...]
On Saturday August 4, 2012 Denise and I both successfully completed the 33.5 mile WIFKR (Wild Idaho Fifty K Endurance Run)! This is a nasty little course with some extremely steep sections (>20%) and a total elevation of about 8,000 feet!
Gary finished in 7:31 and Denise finished in 10:37 — Awesome!

This weekend (8/5) near Skinnydipper Hot Springs a widfire broke out.
This fire initially moved from near milepost 5 on the HWY 17 to the west until it got to HWY 55. It also moved north and is now across Zimmer creek (5 mi north of Banks). It has also jumped the South Fork of the [...]
For Memorial Day weekend 2012 Denise and I went up to the Banner Ridge Yurt for a couple of nights. To get some rest and relaxation, get some trail runs in (we each logged over 20 miles!) and to see the awesome women of the Exergy Challenge summit at nearby Beaver Creek Summit.
While we had [...]
Hi from Queens New York. We left early for our US Open vacation. Good thinking. Our original flights were cancelled.
So far we have seen some tennis and a Mets game where they won 6-0 for a change. We have also seen some wind and rain. I forgot to mention hurricane Irene passed over us early [...]
At the end of May 2011 we spent the long Memorial Day Weekend in mountains at Warm Lake Idaho which is 26 miles East of Cascade.
We stayed in Cabin #10 of the North Shore Lodge. and enjoyed hiking, playing games and relaxing – in-spite of the rain and snow.
We even attempted the climb of Cougar Rock outside of Stolle [...]
Denise, Tonya, Tonya’s friend Pat, and I spent a great week in Maui. We definitely needed to spend more time there catching up on some much needed relaxing. Out condo at Wailea had a great view of the sea and was only a short walk away from great beaches and shopping. A few pictures below [...]
We just returned from a great two weeks in Peru. The highlight was a 310 mile mountain bike ride from Lake Titikaka to Cusco including three passes over 15,000 feet! We also got a chance to visit Machu Pichu and the floating islands of Uros.
More pictures in the below gallery!
A lightning storm passed through late Thursday August 26th and sparked a number of fires nearby. One of our neighbors had a lightning strike to a tree and it started a crown fire that was quickly extinguished due to the quick response by the Garden Valley Fire Fighters.
Just down the Banks Lowman highway about two [...]
Who would have thought! We received over an inch of heavy wet snow on May 22nd. At one point the snow flakes were as large as an inch or more.
The snow weighed heavily on our many Poplar trees. Many of them were bent over all the way to the ground. I went out at close [...]
The weather is finally beginning to warm up, and that can mean only one thing: Spring planting!
Our plants from the University of Idaho Seedling Program arrived on April 7th, and we immediately began preparing them for planting. This year we received 140 Super-Stock Ponderosa Pines (125 for new planting and 15 for replacing dead ones [...]
Well it finally arrived! We had our first major snow storm of the Season today and it is still ongoing. We have had almost 9″ of heavy wet snow as of 11 PM this Tuesday the 15th of December. I expect by the time it is through we will have had about a foot.
